Locksmith Animation's 'That Christmas' Gets a Trailer
We're sorry to remind you, but it will be Christmas before you know it. And Christmas means Christmas films. This year, we're getting a new animated Christmas movie that will be hoping to join modern classics like Arthur Christmas and Klaus in the festive pantheon. That Christmas comes from the UK's Locksmith Animation (Ron's Gone Wrong). It's written by British comedy royalty in the form of Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Blackadder, Four Weddings and A Funeral) and directed by Simon Otto.
“Becoming an animator had been on my Christmas wish list ever since I was a child and watching animated movies was one of the biggest Christmas traditions in my family," Otto said. " But never could I have imagined that one day I would get the chance to direct a Christmas film written by the one-and-only Richard Curtis and collaborate with some of the most iconic voice talents. Watching this cast bring life to these heart-warmingly funny tales and infuse them with the magic of animation is truly a dream come true. I hope That Christmas becomes a cherished tradition for audiences worldwide.”
"This has been the most amazing adventure, my first animated film, " Curtis adds. "It’s been especially exciting to see the whole world I imagined come to life beyond my wildest dreams - and populated by a dream bunch of actors, their wonderful voices turned into such rich and funny characters.”
Curtis and co-writer Peter Souter adapted the screenplay from Curtis' own books. The film follows a series of interconnected tales about love, loneliness, family and friends and Santa Claus making a big mistake. Not to mention a lot of turkeys! Sounds (fittingly) a little like Love Actually for kids.
The film features the voices of Brian Cox , Fiona Shaw, Jodie Whittaker, Lolly Adefope , Alex Macqueen, Katherine Parkinson, Sindhu Vee, India Brown, Zazie Hayhurst, Sienna Sayer , Jack Wisniewski, Rosie Cavaliero, Paul Kaye, Guz Khan, Andy Nyman, Kuhu Agarwal, Bronte Smith, Freddie Spry, Ava Talbot, with Bill Nighy and Rhys Darby.
The film features music from How To Train Your Dragon's John Powell and features an original song written and performed by Ed Sheeran. It is produced by Nicole P. Hearon and Adam Tandy. Executive producers are Mary Coleman, Natalie Fischer, Julie Lockhart, Elisabeth Murdoch, Bonnie Arnold, Lara Breay, Sarah Smith, Rebecca Cobb, Richard Curtis, and Colin Hopkins.
That Christmas will be available on Netflix everywhere from December 4. Check out the trailer, below.
