Kickstart This: Zack In Time: A 2D Animated Series

Crowdfunding has allowed hundreds of animators the chance to bring the project of their dreams to life. Christian Haynes is just the latest to turn directly to fans to help make his project a reality. Zack In Time is the story of a biracial teenager having trouble fitting in at his new school. That is until he finds a time-travelling watch created by a secret government agency- and his adventure begins!

Haynes was inspired partially by the desire to create something for his biracial son He notes that there weren't many biracial figures on TV when he was growing up, and he wanted to do something to change that. Haynes and his partner Paige Powell-Revis also wanted to create an environment that could launch young artists' careers. They have gone from a handful of artists to 100s who are located all around the world.

The story reflects the struggle that we all experience at some point in our life- particularly in our teenage years- feeling awkward, out of place, and unsure of who we are meant to be.

The series also represents the need for diversity and the portrayal of minorities in animation today. "By showcasing a lovable biracial character, we hope to take a step in celebrating the beautiful array of cultures that reflect the human experience."

The Zack In Time pilot episode was created as a proof of concept for the entire series by creating an artistic incubator for up-and-coming industry professionals.

Over the past four years, the team have put their blood, sweat, tears... and wallets into helping making Zack in Time. They believe in the story, characters and creative network they have built. They believe it has the potential to go beyond just the pilot episode, and they have the full series written. The primary goal of the Kickstarter, however, is to fund the pilot episode.

The crew consists of 175+ creatives from countries across the world. From a dozen time differences, language barriers and learning curves, they all are united by a love for 2d animation. Team members have gone on to work or intern for companies including Pixar, DreamWorks, LAIKA, Nickelodeon,  Cartoon Saloon, SPA Animation and many more.

Rewards include $10 for a "personal thank you",  $25.00 will nab you an early download of the pilot, while $50 will get you a digital download pack, featuring exclusive production artwork, soundtrack downloads, an early screener and behind-the-scenes footage.
