Emile Award Nominees Revealed

It's common to talk about 'awards season', but in reality, awards ceremonies take place throughout the year. Following on from the Annie Awards, The British Animation Awards and the Quirino Awards comes the European Animation Awards better known as the Emile Awards. 

As the title indicates, the awards are designed to celebrate the best animation produced (or co-produced) in Europe. The awards are organised by a group of animation professionals from throughout Europe. First established in 2017, they were subject to a pandemic induced pause before making their return this year. The ceremony will be hosted by the ANIMASYROS International Animation Festival.

The 2024 Emile Awards Ceremony will take place on September 23 at the historic Apollon Municipal Theatre of Hermoupolis of Syros Island, Greece. This will be the first time the ceremony is held outside of France.

The nominations have been announced for this year's ceremony. The awards are split into Short Films and Feature Films. The short films are split into several categories such as Best Animation In A Short Film, Best Backgrounds and Characters in A Short Film, Best Innovative Short Film and Best Of The Best Short Film.

Nominees include 27, A Kind Of Testament,  Above The Clouds,  The Family Portrait and The Ice Merchants.

The Feature Films meanwhile are all automatically nominated in a list of categories that include Best Writing In A Feature, Best Animation In A Feature,  Best Soundtrack In A Feature and Best of The Best In A Feature.

Nominees in the Feature category include Chicken For Linda, Mars Express, My Love Affair With Marriage, Blind Willow Sleeping Women and Unicorn Wars.
