'Dan Da Dan' Gets Cinema Preview Screening This September
Occasionally fans are given a chance to see their favourite small-screen series on the big screen. It's typically series with major fandom such as Doctor Who or Game Of Thrones. It occasionally happens with anime. It's unusual for it to happen with a brand new show. But that's just what's happening with the hotly anticipated new series Dan Da Dan.
Potential fans will be given the chance of checking out the first three episodes ahead of its premiere on streaming in October. The episodes will screen alongside exclusive bonus footage featuring interviews with key staff including the manga’s original author, Yukinobu Tatsu.
Tatsu's original manga is intended to be a love-letter to sci-fi and horror, with the heart of a teenage rom-com. It was serialised in Shonen Jump+, and has spanned 14 volumes to date, selling 3.2 million copies worldwide.
At its heart is the unlikely partnership between two mismatched teenagers. Momo, who comes from a family of spirit mediums, and bookish Okarun, who belives in aliens but not ghosts. Following an argument, they try to disprove each other's beliefs. They both get caught up in paranormal and spiritual, leaving them with powerful new abilities
Dan Da Dan: First Encounter is produced by the world-renowned studio Science Saru (Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Devilman Crybaby) and sees studio veteran Fuga Yamashiro (INU-OH, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!) making his directorial debut. Kensuke Ushio contributes the score. Original author Tatsu previously worked as an assistant on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man and Fire Punch.
The theatrical event will be coming to cinemas for one night only on September 13, in the United States, the United Kingdom and Ireland. It will be distributed in the US by GKIDS Films and in the UK by Anime Limited. This marks the first-ever first-run acquisition of a series from GKIDS. They have previously released classic series like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Future Boy Conan, but never a new series. What is it about the series that made them choose this as their first?
