Anime Limited & Plaion Pictures Announces Acquisition of Home Video Rights for Laika Catalogue

We've been waiting for some time for the next film from LAIKA. But while we await their next stop-motion opus, Anime Limited and Plaion Pictures, in association with LAIKA have announced the acquisition of home video rights for the studio's back-catalouge. They will be released in the UK, France, , Italy, Germany, Benelux, Spain and Portugal. The releases will include Coraline (which celebrates its 15th Anniversary in 2024), ParaNorman, Kubo And The Two Strings and The Boxtrolls, on Blu-Ray and 4K.

The acquisition marks Anime Limited and Plaion Pictures continued commitment to animated film and physical media. Anime Limited is the UK's biggest distributor of anime, but following their partnership with Plaion, they have increasingly moved into other forms of animation- most notably in the upcoming release of Arcane.

The films will return to physical media just in time for the holidays. Coraline and The Boxtrolls will be released on November 25,  on standard edition Blu-Ray and a special edition steelbook with Blu-Ray and 4K. ParaNorman and Kubo And The Two Strings will follow on December 9, on standard edition blu-ray and special edition 4K UHD and blu-ray steelbooks.

The return to physical media has coincided with LAIKA's successful rerelease of Coraline in cinemas across the US, UK and Ireland this summer, with more screenings planned for other territories. The release of the films on disc allows the introduction of them to a new generation of animation fans, as well as allowing long-time fans the chance to revisit old favourites.

Presumably in terms of extras these will be identical (or at least somewhat similar) to the editions put out in the United States by Shout Factory (now Shout Studios) a couple of years ago. The upgrade to 4K UHD is new for Europe though!

The films are not currently available to preorder on Amazon.
