Warner Bros Will No Longer Release Genndy Tartakovsky’s R-Rated comedy 'Fixed'.

It used to be the worse thing that could happen to a movie or TV show is it being cancelled. That was before executives discovered they could make more money by writing them off for tax, deleting them from streaming or not releasing them at all. The most famous example of encountering this fate was Warner Bros Discovery's animated/live-action hybrid Coyote Vs Acme. Now another animated film that WBD has decided to shelve is Genndy Tartakovsky’s R-Rated comedy Fixed.

The feature is Tartakovsky's first ever adult animated comedy, although he had produced adult animation before with the highly successful Adult Swim series Primal. The 2d animated feature follows a dog named Bull, who discovers that his owners plan to have him neutered in the morning. And so he decides to gather his friends to have one last wild night out before he says goodbye to his balls.

The film was showcased at Annecy back in 2023, where Tartakovsky presented a detailed display of storyboards, layout and finished animation.

It's not clear exactly why Fixed has met the axe- beyond the obvious money saving- but the news is definitely disappointing for adult animation fans. However, all is not lost. The film was actually produced by Sony Pictures Animation, and by Warner Bros deciding to pass on it, the rights revert to Sony. This allows them to shop around and find a new release partner, or potentially release it themselves.

Tartakovsky has a long history with Warner Bros so it's pretty surprising to see his work treated this way. Most of his work has been produced for Cartoon Network Studios or Adult Swim, from Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack,  Star Wars: Clone Wars, right up to Primal and Unicorn Warriors Eternal. It's another baffling decision from Warner Bros Discovery- who seem to be making a lot of them lately.

He signed an overall deal with Warner Bros Animation back in 2022 to develop, create and produce animated programming for all audiences for both Cartoon Network and WBA. It's not known if the deal is still intact.

Fixed features the voices of Adam Devine as Bull, Idris Elba as Rocco, Kathryn Hahn as Honey, Bobby Moynihan as Lucky, Fred Armisen as Fetch, Beck Bennett as Sterling, River Gallo as Frankie, and Michelle Buteau as Molasses. The film is written and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky and co-written by Jon Vitti. It is produced by Michelle Murdocca,  Ashley Postlewaite of Renegade Animation and Christian Roedel.
