SCAD AnimationFest To Honour Genndy Tartakovsky

The festival circuit allows enthusiasts to enjoy the best in animation in venues around the world. Both in dedicated animation festivals like Annecy and Animation Is Film, and in animation strands in general film festivals like Fantasia. The latest of the former to announce its program is SCAD Animation Fest.

Organised by the prestigious Savannah College Of Art and Design (SCAD), the three-day festival will be held in Atlanta at SCAD's state-of-the-art SCADshow theatre. This year the festival will honour animation legend Genndy Tartakovsky.

“This year, SCAD AnimationFest proudly honours a titan of animation and a hero to Bees across the world - Cartoon Network and Adult Swim legend Genndy Tartakovsky, the genius behind Hotel Transylvania and Dexter’s Laboratory. SCAD students grew up on Genndy’s classics, and now, in true SCAD fashion, they’ll experience this 2D icon in 8K reality!” said SCAD president and founder Paula Wallace.  “And I'll be first in line to see the latest creation from brilliant Bees at SCAD Animation Studios, Chelita — an homage to classic Mexican cinema — the latest animated jewel in SCAD student portfolios ready to launch them into this $260 billion industry. See you at SCADshow....I’ll bring the popcorn!”

SCADFILM's signature festival for digital media will feature sessions from top executives and creatives from Adult Swim, Bad Robot, Crafty Apes, DC Studios, DreamWorks Animation, Netflix, and Warner Bros. Animation. It will also showcase the work of talented SCAD students and alumni.

The line-up includes sessions on the making of Warner Bros/ DC Studios Creature Commandos, Blue Eye Samurai, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio and the making of Chelita. There are also several SCAD animation showcases, a preview of Adam Elliot's Memoirs Of A Snail and Adult Swim series Common Side Effects. And of course there is the festival's centrepiece, Genndy Tartakovsky's keynote, where the man himself presides over a comprehensive retrospective of his career to date, discussing his experiences on Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Sym-Bionic Titan, Hotel Transylvania, Primal and more.

SCAD Animation Fest will be held from September 26-28, 2024.  Passes and tickets to individual events are available from the festival website.
