'Moana 2' Gets A Teaser Trailer.
Up until a couple of months ago, we had no idea that a sequel to Moana was on the way. It was originally in the works as a TV series for Disney+, but the powers that be decided that it would be better served as a theatrical sequel. And so Moana 2 was born- and is only a few months away.
Walt Disney Animation Studios has debuted a new teaser trailer for the new film. It introduces us to an older Moana, signifying that some time has passed since the original film. She now seems to have taken up more of a leadership role in her tribe. But upon receiving an unexpected message from her sea-faring ancestors, Moana is persuaded to take to the seas again to embark on an adventure the likes of which she has never faced. And that will reunite her once again with the mischievous Maui.
Moana 2 is directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller and is produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino. The screenplay is written by David Derrick Jr. Lin Manuel Miranda is presumably busy writing new songs for Mustafa: The Lion King, so music for the sequel comes from Grammy-winning Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foaʻi, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina.
Auli‘i Cravalho is returning as the voice of Moana, with Dwayne Johnson back as Maui and Walt Disney Animation Studio's good-luck-charm Alan Tudyk back as Hei Hei. None of the rest of the cast has been announced, but we'd be surprised if Temuera Morrison and Nicole Scherzinger didn't reprise their roles. Heck, we wouldn't be surprised to hear Rachel House crop up in some capacity.
Moana 2 sails into cinemas in the United States on November 27 and in the UK and Ireland on November 29.
