Marvel Studios' What If...?- An Immersive Story Coming to Apple Vision Pro
For a long time Marvel Studios didn't seem to be able to put a foot wrong. That was until last year when it was proven that even they weren't indestructible, with two movies under-performing and a TV series that was widely panned. One area that they have been doing better however, is animation X-Men 97 has been a success with audiences and critics alike, and last Christmas their first animated Disney+ original What If..? returned for a second season.
What If...? is the first animated series to be canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Each episode takes place in an alternative universe, where events took a different path to the ones we see in the movies. Such as What if... Peggy Carter became a super soldier? What if.. T'Chala became Star-Lord? What if... zombies? While we wait for season three Marvel is releasing an immersive experience based on the series.
What if... you were chosen? In the immersive experience, The Watcher (Jeffery Wright) needs your help to save the multiverse. Multiverse villains are breaking out of their realities and searching for Infinity Stones, that threaten not only to change the path of their own realities but our own as well. Players must use their own hands to learn mystic spells, defend their allies in epic battles and more. The immersive experience will bring new and iconic worlds from What If..? to your living room.
The story will feature well-known MCU heroes and villains such as Wong, Thanos, Hela and Red Guardian.
"As a kid, my favourite stories were about worlds beyond my own, advanced technologies, and heroes travelling across space and time. What If…? – An Immersive Story is the next evolution in how we tell our stories, where fans across generations can experience them and live out the adventure alongside their favourite heroes," said director and executive producer Dave Bushore. "This experience kicks the door open to the Marvel Universe, and it’s a glimpse of what I’ve been waiting for my whole life."
"What If…? the animated series as well as the comic book has always been about looking over the horizon into realities that have yet to be conceived," said executive producer Brad Winderbaum. "What If…? – An Immersive Story takes this one step further and actually allows you to visit these strange new worlds, not as a Watcher but as an actual participant. The creative work on this project is nothing less than stellar and we could not be more excited for fans to interact firsthand with some of their favorite Marvel heroes."
The experience will be available as a free app for the Apple Vision Pro from May 30, for a limited time only. It is presented by Marvel Studios, ILM Immersive and Disney+.
