Illogic Studios Releases Early Look At 'The Scavengers'
Animated shorts can be a great way for filmmakers to establish their style and present themselves to the world. But they can also be a stepping-stone to something longer. The producers of the French Oscar-nominated short The Garden Party have released an early look at their debut animated feature The Scavengers.
Following the success of the short, the team behind it founded Illogic Studios in Montpelier, France. They have since produced work for some very high-profile clients including Google, Walls, Swarovski and Oasis.
The Scavengers was first unveiled to the world at the 2023 Annecy International Animation Festival, where it was selected at the MIFA pitching session with major distribution companies and producers. The film is still under active development and the producers are looking for partners.
Illogic's Victor Caire, Théophile Dufresne, Gabriel Grapperon, and Lucas Navarro describe the film as an exciting feature with an adult tone and dark and cinematic art direction.“ We want to give this project a wacky and quirky touch," they say. " Each of the human objects present in the environment is used by the animals in a surprising and inventive way. The challenge is to bring poetry and a surprising look to these discarded items. It is a challenge which, if successful, has the potential to create a singular world. "
The story follows the exploits of a lazy rat and a resourceful frog, trying to maintain their luxurious lifestyle in a giant city made of rubbish. The film is a satire of consumer culture and modern society full of comfort and consumption.
Illogic has also released a short teaser video.
As the film is still in an early stage of development, we don't yet have a release date, or even a release window. Nonetheless, The Scavengers looks like a film worth keeping an eye on! Check out the preview images below. You can also check out The Garden Party short film here.
