For one week every June a picturesque alpine town in France becomes the centre of the animation industry. The
Annecy International Animation Festival attracts animation professionals and enthusiasts from around the world. The festival features lots of screenings as well as work-in-progress sessions, masterclasses and making-of panels. The programme for these events are to be announced in May.
This year the festival will run from 11-17 June, and will put Portugal in the spotlight. The festival has previously announced the first part of this year's official selection. Now they have also announced the TV Films and Commissioned Films selection. The Feature Films and VR selections are still to be announced.
Additionally, prior to the festival, Annecy will also host Animation Day at the Cannes International Film Festival. Annecy will preview five independent animated features currently in production as Work-In-Progress sessions.
This year's selection features A New Dawn, a Japanese/French co-production from Yoshitoshi Shinomiya (previously an animation on Your Name); Mu-Ki-Ra, a Spanish/Colombian production from the producers of Unicorn Wars, Mexican feature The Language Of Birds; In Waves, a French/Belgian/US production and Conference Of The Birds, a France-Luxemburg.
We would assume that these films are likely to feature at the festival itself, although whether they will get a repeat of the work-in-progress sessions remains to be seen.
