Crunchyroll Releases Documentary To Mark 25 Years Of Bones
There are quite a few documentaries on animation. But there aren't that many specifically on anime- at least not in English. The arrival of such a documentary is a cause for celebration, then. Leading anime streaming service Crunchyroll has announced that it has produced a 4 episode documentary series on one of Japan's leading animation studios. Bones 25: Dreaming Forward was commissioned to mark the 25th Anniversary of studio Bones (Cowboy Bebop The Movie, Carole and Tuesday, My Hero Academia). The series is streaming from February 13 to accompany their newest series Metallic Rouge.
Bones 25: Dreaming Forward consists of four 24-minute documentary episodes on the world-renowned studio. It is produced by Crunchyroll in association with French company Delta Rocket. Delta Rocket's Jace directed the series, having previously fronted more than 40 documentaries for French broadcasters including Canal+, Arte, M6, and TCM.
“Studio BONES is behind some of the most iconic anime of a generation,” said Asa Suehira, Chief Content Officer at Crunchyroll. “It’s only fitting that anime fans will want to have an unprecedented look inside their creators and studios. To give fans that look, we’ve partnered with a great documentary storyteller in DeltaRocket to turn the camera around and spotlight one of Japan’s great anime storytellers.”
President of Bones Masahiko Minami described the studio: "We wanted to build a place where we could find new forms of expression, new genres, and new themes through creation. Looking back, it was with great joy and gratitude that I rediscovered the works we have been creating with our wonderful friends.”
The series charts the founding of the studio and the making of its most iconic series. From high quality adaptations of beloved manga series to original anime series Bones has enraptured legions of fans since it was founded 25 years ago. The series was shot entirely in Japan and includes four parts: “The History of Bones” “Style and Originality,” “Successful Adaptation,” and “Metallic Rouge: The Future of Bones.”. It features interviews with 30 key figures including Masahiko Minami (President), ONE (author Mob Psycho 100), Shinichiro Watanabe (Director, Cowboy Bebop), Kafka Asagiri (Creator), and Yutaka Izubuchi (Conceptual Author and Series Composition of Metallic Rouge) and Motonobu Hori of (Director of Metallic Rouge).
More than 30 series and specials from Bones are already available on Crunchyroll including Bungo Stray Dogs, , The Case Study of Vanitas, Eureka Seven and SK8 the Infinity, with more coming soon.
