Crunchyroll Anime Awards Announces 2024 Categories and Judges
As the end of the year approaches it can mean only one thing. Awards season is here. In most cases, animation is only eligible for one or two awards but the Crunchyroll Anime Awards is unique. Not only is it one of the few dedicated to animation, it's the only one focused on anime (in the West at least). Crunchyroll have revealed the list of categories for next year's ceremony. The Crunchyroll Anime Awards have added three new categories, reflecting both the artistic excellence and variety of genres within anime.
The categories for the 2024 ceremony are as follows:
• Anime of the Year
• Best Action
• Best Animation
• Best Anime Song
• Best Art Direction (New)
• Best Character Design
• Best Cinematography (New)
• Best Comedy
• Best Continuing Series
• Best Director
• Best Drama
• Best Ending Sequence
• Best Fantasy
• Best Film
• Best Main Character
• Best New Series
• Best Opening Sequence
• Best Original Anime
• Best Romance
• Best Score
• Best Slice of Life (New)
• Best Supporting Character
• Best Voice Actor Performance - (Arabic, Castilian, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Latin Spanish.)
• “Must Protect At All Cost” Character
"Anime is a dynamic art form, offering an adventure for every kind of fan, and we are honoured to celebrate the creative talent behind the medium that is captivating viewers around the world," said Rahul Purini, Crunchyroll President. "From the depth of artistry, nuanced storytelling, and pure joy that anime brings to so many, we look forward to gathering again in Japan to honour the best of anime this year."
The nominees are set to be revealed on January 17, 2024, and are selected by the judging panel which comprises of over 100 tastemakers, experts and influencers from around the world. This year's panel represents the largest and most diverse selection in the Anime Awards history. You can see the full list of judges here. Once the nominees have been revealed, they will be open to a public vote from January 17-27.
The eighth annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards will take place for the second time at the Grand Prince Hotel ShinTakanawa in Tokyo, Japan on March 2, 2024. The ceremony, which will be live-streamed to fans around the world, will be hosted by acclaimed voice actress Sally Amaki and popular entertainer Jon Kabira.
