Hazbin Hotel Opens This January
It's not often that an independent animation gets picked up by a mainstream distributor. But that's just what happened with Hazbin Hotel, when Vivienne "Vivziepop" Medrano's adult animated musical comedy was bought by A24. The pilot, originally released in 2019, surpassed 92 million views on YouTube. The first full season is finally due to debut on Prime Video from January 19, in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie, the princess of Hell as she tries her best to reach the seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating Demons to reduce overcrowding in the underworld. To help her achieve this, she opens the titular hotel, where she hopes that they will be checking out to heaven. Most of Hell mocks her optimism but her loyal partner Vaggie and their first test subject, adult film star Angel Dust stick by her side.
An array of new Guest Stars have been announced. They include Broadway veterans Darren Criss (Saint Peter), Jeremy Jordan (Lucifer Morningstar), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Carmilla Carmine), Patina Miller (Sera), and Jessica Vosk (Lute). They will join the previously announced main cast which includes Erika Henningsen, Stephanie Beatriz, Alex Brightman, Keith David, Kimiko Glenn, Blake Roman, Amir Talai, Christian Borle, and Joel Perez. The series includes original music and lyrics by platinum-certified artist Sam Haft and Emmy-nominated Andrew Underberg.
Vivienne Medrano is executive producer and directed all the episodes. Joel Kuwahara and Dana Tafoya-Cameron, and Scott Greenberg also serve as executive producers. The series is produced by A24 and FOX Entertainment's Bento Box Entertainment.
