Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget: New Trailer Hatches
23 years is a long time to wait for a sequel. But that's how many years have passed between the original release of Chicken Run and the upcoming release of sequel Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget. The wait is nearly over and so Netflix have treated us to a brand new trailer.
The original Chicken Run was not only Aardman Animation's most successful film but remains to this day the most successful stop-motion film of all time. It's a shame that the sequel is skipping cinemas- a few festival screenings aside- for streaming. But beggars can't be choosers, and we just have to be grateful we get a sequel at all.
The sequel catches us up with the chickens from the original. Ginger, Rocky, Babs and co have settled into a new life in a peaceful island sanctuary. What's more Ginger and Rocky have recently welcomed a chick named Molly into their lives Their lives seem like they couldn't be more perfect.
But Molly is a chip off the old block and wants to go exploring. When she leaves the island and finds herself taken prisoner the flock follows to try and rescue her. Ginger discovers a new and very sinister looking Chicken Farm that will put all of chicken kind in danger. And Mrs Tweedy of the original chicken farm is behind it. Last time they broke out of a Chicken Farm... this time they're breaking in!
Original voice actors Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson are not returning, and are replaced by Thandiwe Newton and Zachary Levi. The Last Of Us star Bella Ramsey stars as Molly. Rounding out the flock and their friends are Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton, Lynn Ferguson, Josie Sedgwick-Davis, David Bradley, Daniel Mays, and Romesh Ranganathan. Featuring as the villains are Miranda Richardson, Peter Serafinowicz, and Nick Mohammed.
Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget is directed by Sam Fell (ParaNorman, Flushed Away) and written by Karey Kirkpatrick, John O'Farrel and Rachel Tunnard. Nick Park and Peter Lord are executive producers.
The film will arrive on Netflix worldwide on December 15.
During Geeked Week, it was announced that a Chicken Run game would be coming for Netflix subscribers in 2024. From Aardman's interactive arm, Chicken Run: Eggstraction is a real-time top-down heist game that combines team-based infiltration with high-octane, chaotic escapes. Taking place after the events of the sequel, it takes you to various colourful locations to rescue chickens and bring them back to Chicken Island. The game will be available exclusively for Netflix members.
