Adult Swim Drop 'FLCL: Shoegaze' Trailer
You wait years for a sequel to come along to FLCL and then two come along at once. At least that's how it seems as the fifth season FLCL: Shoegaze will air will Saturday, Sept. 30 at midnight ET/PT on Adult Swim's iconic anime block Toonami. New episodes will be available the next day on Max.
The series is directed by Yutaka Uemura, and is set to a new soundtrack by The Pillows. The animation is produced by Production I.G x NUT and is executive produced by Jason DeMarco and produced by Maki Terashima-Furuta of Production IG USA.
FLCL: Shoegaze picks up after the events of the third season FLCL Alternative. While everyone returns to their normal lives, two tormented teenagers plot to destroy The Tsuganei tower in the hopes that it might incite change.
"Coming off of his terrific work on ‘FLCL: Alternative,’ we are so excited to have director Yutaka Uemura return to the world of FLCL," said Jason DeMarco, SVP, Head of Anime and Action Series at Adult Swim. "After a long wait, we are so thrilled to welcome back FLCL. We hope you enjoy it!"
The series comes hot on the heels of the fourth season FLCL Grunge, which has been airing new episodes every Saturday night at midnight.
This will see a return to hand-drawn for the franchise, dropping the stylised CG style of Grunge. Get your first look at the new season in the trailer, below.
