Lonely Castle In The Mirror Releases on Blu-Ray and Digital This September
Following its cinema screenings earlier this month, GKIDS Films have announced the home release of Lonely Castle In The Mirror. Directed by acclaimed anime auteur Keiichi Hara ( The Wonderland, Miss Hokusai) and based on the book by Mizuki Tsujimura, the film is a heartfelt fantasy about the pains of growing up and the unlikely bonds that can form along the way.
The film is written Miho Maruo, with Ilya Kuvshinov contributing visual concepts and character designs.
It follows shy outcast Koroko who has been avoiding school for weeks. One day she discovers a portal in her bedroom mirror. On the other side she finds six other students. A girl in wolf mask explains to the teens that they must play a game, and must work together to uncover the mysterious connection that unites them. But anybody who breaks the rules is doomed to be eaten by a wolf.
Lonely Castle In The Mirror was the first ever Japanese animated feature to be selected for the Rotterdam International Film Festival, where it received its international premiere. The film also screened in competition at the 2023 Annecy International Animation Festival and was nominated for the Animation Of The Year at the 2023 Japan Academy Prizes.
The film comes to Blu-Ray and all major digital platforms (Apple, Amazon, Google, YouTube etc) on September 26 with distribution by Shout Factory. Special features on the Blu-Ray version include trailers and an image gallery of the film's beautiful visuals.
