Genndy Tartakovsky’s Unicorn: Warriors Eternal Arrives On Adult Swim This May

Genndy Tartakovsky
is a towering figure in western animation. His series from Dexter's Laboratory, via Samurai Jack to Primal have won legions of fans, numerous awards and critical acclaim. That means any new project of his is going to generate a great deal of excitement.

Adult Swim have announced the imminent release of Tartakovsky's new series Unicorn Warriors Eternal this May.

Not to be confused with  Unicorn Wars, Unicorn Warriors is an action supernatural fantasy series like no other. It follows a team of heroes who awaken to fight an ominous force throughout eternity. When the reawakening of the heroes manifests in the bodies of new unsuspecting teenage hosts, they must find a way to protect the world from the coming darkness.

The series features warrior monks, sorcerers, elves, monsters and more, all thrown into a steampunk version of Industrial Revolution era London. It's a series that Tartakovsky has been wanting to make for a long time.

“This show was created in my early days at Cartoon Network Studios more than 20 years ago. All the projects we worked on- Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and Sym-Bionic Titan- were like a training ground getting us ready for this series. It took all of that time to finally be able to tackle a show like ‘Unicorn: Warriors Eternal,’" he said.

"This show is truly a wonder. It shows that in the hands of a creative visionary and an insanely talented team, there’s no limit to the kinds of stories animation can tell," said Michael Ouweleen, president, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang and Discovery Kids. "By programming this during peak hours and re-airing across multiple dayparts, we are ensuring that all generations of animation fans can see this event-level series.”

Unicorn Warriors Eternal is created and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, with character designs by Stephen DeStefano, and music by Tyler Bates and Joanne Higginbottom. The cast includes Hazel Doupe as Melinda, Tom Milligan as Edred, and Demari Hunte as Seng. The series is produced by Cartoon Network Studios.

The series will air its first two episodes on Thursday, May 4 on Adult Swim at Midnight, and will stream the next day on HBO Max. Subsequent episodes will air weekly, with encore screenings on Adult Swim and Toonami. The international rollout will begin from May 5.
