Crunchyroll Anime Awards Winners Revealed
This past weekend saw the seventh edition of the Crunchyroll Anime Awards. The ceremony took place in Japan for the first time and saw fans from across the world vote for their favourite anime. The winners were revealed in a star-studded event that was streamed live.
Celebrity anime fans handing out the awards included directors Justin Lin (The Fast and The Furious franchise) and Robert Rodriguez (Alita Battle Angel) actors Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) and Jabob Bertrand (Cobra Kai) and streamers Valkyrae and Sykkuno. The ceremony was hosted by voice actress Sally Amaki and popular entertainer Jon Kabira.
This year 18 million votes were cast by fans in 200 countries and territories. Winners were voted on by the public from a list of nominees selected by a panel of anime experts, Some of the countries that cast the most votes included the United States, Great Britain, India, Brazil, Argentina, France, Germany, Mexico, Chile and Canada.
Netflix and Studio Trigger's Cyberpunk: Edgrunners was named Anime Of The Year. Demon Slayer Kimestus No Yaiba: Entertainment District Arc was a big winner, winning Best Action, Best Animation, Best Direction and Best Character Design. Attack On Titan: The Final Season Part 2 won for Best Drama, Best Main Character (Eren Jaeger), Best Opening Sequence, Best Anime Song and Best Score. Spy x Family won for Best Comedy, Best New Series, Best Closing Sequence, Best Supporting Character and "Must Protect At All Costs" Character.
One Piece was named Best Continuing Series. Lycoris Recoil won Best Original Anime. Best Film was given to Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
