Super Mario Bros Movie Gets New Plumbing Commerical
The Super Bowl is the biggest sporting event in the US. But in recent years it has also become of interest to even those who don't care for sports. That's because Superbowl commercials have become something of an institution in their own right.
This year's crop of commercials are pretty slim pickings for movies. And only one of them was for an animated movie. Luckily, it's pretty great.
The newest promo for The Super Mario Bros Movie comes in the form of a fake commercial, which debuted during the big game. The advertisement is for their "family owned and operated" plumbing business Super Mario Bros Plumbing.
This is the first time we have seen anything from the life of the brothers before they are somehow transported to The Mushroom Kingdom. It's short (just 30 seconds) but packs in a lot of character and humour- as well as Easter Eggs for eagle-eyed fans. Fans will get a kick out of hearing the Mario rap as heard in the 80s Super Mario Bros Super Show cartoon,
The ad features a phone number that can be dialled (within the US) to hear a recorded message. A Super Mario Bros Plumbing website was also launched.
"Welcome to Super Mario Bros. Plumbing! We are brothers and yes, we are super" it reads. "My little (but taller) brother, Luigi, and I were tired of dealing with spiky bosses, so we jumped at the opportunity to take on Brooklyn’s plumbing problems all by ourselves."
The Super Mario Bros Movie is produced by Illumination in partnership with Nintendo. It's directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and written by Matthew Fogel. It stars the voices of Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anna Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. It will be released on April 7.
