GKIDS Films and Fathom Event Announce 'Evangelion 3.0+ 1.01: Thrice Upon A Time' Screenings
Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the most iconic franchises in anime history. The original series inspired legions of imitators but few ever came close. And now the series is coming back to US cinemas.
GKIDS Films are following up their 2021 release of the original 1995 series and its sequel movies by bringing the most recent Evangelion outing to the big screen. Evangelion 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon A Time is (confusingly) actually the fourth and final part of the Renewal Of Evangelion movie series which began with Evangelion 1.11 You Are Not Alone way back in 2007. GKIDS are partnering up with Fathom Events to hold screenings of the film for three nights only on December 6, 8 and 11. Tickets go on sale on November 2 via the film's website or from participating box offices.
Hideaki Anno returns as chief director and writer for the film which is intended to act as an ultimate finale to Shinji's story.
From legendary director Hideaki Anno, EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME is the fourth and final installment of the REBUILD OF EVANGELION films, bringing an epic conclusion to the story of Shinji and his fellow Eva pilots, with the stunning visuals and thought-provoking storytelling that has made EVANGELION a global pop culture phenomenon.
Misato and her anti-NERV group Wille arrive at Paris, a city now red from core-ization. Crew from the flagship Wunder land on a containment tower. They only have 720 seconds to restore the city. When a horde of NERV Evas appear, Mari’s improved Eva Unit 8 must intercept. Meanwhile, Shinji, Asuka, and Rei wander about Japan.
Thrice Upon A Time was originally released in Japan in 2021, going on to gross ¥10.28 billion ($85 million) and becoming the highest grossing film of the year. It was released internationally on Prime Video, but this will mark US Audiences' first chance to see the film theatrically.
