GKIDS and Fathom Events' Studio Ghibli Fest Returns For 2022

American anime lovers and cinephiles are probably very aware of the Ghiblifest screenings that GKIDS Films have held in past years. In partnership with Fathom Events, classic films from Studio Ghibli were screened, allowing more people than ever to catch the chance to see their favorites on the big screen. Plans for the event to take place in 2020 had to be scrapped for obvious reasons, but GKIDS has confirmed that it is returning for its fifth iteration in 2022!

This year's events will run from April through until November, with each film screening on a Sunday afternoon in English dubbed form and in original Japanese on the following Monday evening. With the exception of The Cat Returns and Only Yesterday, each film will also get an encore screening the next Wednesday evening with the dub.

The screenings will also include exclusive bonus material, which in past years have included rarely screened shorts, music videos and interviews as well as collectibles. The series kicks off in April with screenings of Hayao Miyazaki's classic Princess Mononoke, to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The Cat Returns will also celebrate its 20th Anniversary this year, and Isao Takahata's Only Yesterday will be getting its first nationwide release in the US. It all wraps up with Spirited Away just in time for Halloween!
