The Bob's Burgers Movie Trailer Is Finally Here
It took The Simpsons nearly 20 years to get a big-screen spin-off, while South Park got its movie after just two. Bob's Burgers is somewhere in the middle. The Bob's Burgers Movie was originally set for release in 2020, but has been held up repeatedly by delays and the pandemic. Assuming it actually manages to make its May 27, 2022, North American release date, it will be just over 11 years after The Belcher family first graced our screens.
The movie has been a long time coming (it was announced in 2017, before the Disney buyout of 20th Century Fox) but very few details have been revealed so far. That means the first trailer is quite a big deal, but after watching we're not entirely sure we know much more than we did before. After a quick fake live-action Burger commercial at the start, we have a fairly typical Bob's Burgers scene featuring Bob, Linda and Teddy. It could easily come from the show, apart from the fact that the animation looks a bit more expensive. Cue more scenes featuring Lousie, Gene and Tina and then various flashes from the film, which include Tina riding a horse, a UFO, a robot, and Linda dressed as a "sexy burger". There's a good chance that some of these will be a part of a dream or fantasy sequences, as the series tends to keep things pretty grounded.

“The Bob’s Burgers Movie” is an animated, big-screen, musical comedy-mystery-adventure based on the long-running Emmy®-winning series. The story begins when a ruptured water main creates an enormous sinkhole right in front of Bob's Burgers, blocking the entrance indefinitely and ruining the Belchers’ plans for a successful summer. While Bob and Linda struggle to keep the business afloat, the kids try to solve a mystery that could save their family's restaurant. As the dangers mount, these underdogs help each other find hope and fight to get back behind the counter, where they belong.
Original music has grown to be an increasingly big part of the TV series over its run, so the film being a musical is a natural evolution.
The producers can probably count themselves lucky that they have avoided being switched to a digital or streaming release, as so many other films have- most recently Pixar's Turning Red. The trailer is quite insistent that the Bob's Burger's Movie is coming "only in Theaters", but it remains to be seen if it will keep that promise. That would make it the first 2D animated film from Disney to get a cinema release since 2011's Winnie The Pooh.
The Bob's Burgers Movie is directed by series creator Loren Bouchard and Bernard Derriman ( a supervising director on the TV series and Central Park).
