The Academy Releases Best Animated Short Shortlist For The 94th Oscars
A few days ago we brought you the shortlist of animated feature films eligible to be nominated for the 2022 Academy Awards (aka The Oscars). The Academy has now released the shortlists for 10 other categories which include the Best Animated Short.
Outside of the animation category, animated feature Flee has officially made the shortlist for two more awards, in addition to the Best Animated Feature award. Jonas Poher Rasmussen's film has qualified for the Best Documentary Feature and the Best International Feature, where it was selected as Denmark's submission for 2022. All films in the Animated Feature category are also automatically eligible for the Best Feature award, but only a small number of animated films have ever been nominated.
The other area animated films tend to do well in is in the music categories. Disney's Encanto has made the shortlist both for Best Score and Best Original Song for Dos Oruguita. Illumination's Sing 2 also qualifies for original song Your Song Saved My Life.
In total 15 animated shorts will advance to the next round of voting, out of 82 qualifying films submitted this year. The Short Films and Feature Animation Branch vote to determine the shortlist and nominees.
The 94th Academy Awards are set to take place on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at The Dolby Theatre, Hollywood. Nominations will be announced on Tuesday. February 8.
