Disney Plus Day: New 'Luca' 'Olaf' and 'Simpsons' Shorts Coming In November
Not so long ago, Netflix was the undisputed leader of subscription-based video streaming services. Seeing their success, virtually every studio and distribution company had decided to launch a rival of their own. The most successful of them so far has been Disney Plus which in a relatively short amount of time has risen to become the third-biggest streaming service in the US (behind only Netflix and Amazon), while the more established sites' market share has been getting smaller. Disney Plus has definitely released a lot of the most talked-about TV of the last 18-months- could it soon be overtaking its rivals?
Disney Plus launched in the US and on November 12, 2019, meaning that it will soon be celebrating its second anniversary. Disney has decided to mark this with Disney Plus Day and will celebrate with an array of new content for customers around the world. This is planned to be an annual event.
As well as adding two of Disney's biggest live-action movies of the year Marvel's Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings and Jungle Cruise and reboot Home Sweet Home Alone, this will include some animated offerings.
Ciao Alberto is a new short from Pixar based on this summer's Luca. The short will be directed by McKenna Jean Harris and executive-produced by Luca helmer Enrico Cassarossa. Coming from Walt Disney Animation Studios is Olaf Presents, a series of shorts that will retell classic Disney stories as retold by Frozen's beloved snowman. There's also set to be a brand new Simpsons short that will "pay tribute to Disney Plus's Marquee brands".
November 12 will also see several classic shorts make their debut in the US (they're already available elsewhere)- including Feast, Paperman, Frozen Fever and Get A Horse. Additionally, there will be new specials celebrating Marvel and Star Wars, special fan events, new reveals and first looks, trailers and appearances from top creators and stars.
Disney also announced that Disney Plus will launch in Taiwan and South Korea on November 12, and in Hong Kong shortly after on November 16.
