And so the 25th edition of Montreal's world-famous Fantasia Festival comes to an end. The second (and for everyone's sake hopefully last) virtual edition has offered an impressive line-up of animation among its Axis selection, with animated films competing for the prestigious Satoshi Kon Award For Best Animation,
The movies and shorts were region-locked to Canada, but Fantasia has made the free online Q&A sessions and panels available to everyone through their YouTube channel. We've rounded up the animation-related ones for you here.
Konversation: Takayuki Hirao Meets Pascal Alex Vincent
Pascal Alex Vincent, French documentarian and director of the
Satoshi Kon documentary The Illustionsist held a conversation
with Japanese animator Takayuki Hirao, director of
Pompo The Cinephile. Both filmmakers' films premiered as part of this
festival, but they are here to discuss the late, great Kon, under who
Hirao got his start working on Millenium Actress and
Paranoia Agent.
