HBO Max and Cartoon Network Announce Two New DC Series
HBO Max and Cartoon Network will expand their animation slate with two new superhero series.
The announcement came Wednesday when Warner Bros. execs Tom Ascheim and Sam Register revealed a straight to series order for Batman: Caped Crusader, an original take on the DC icon that will add depth and dimension to previous shows. Warner Bros. Animation, Bad Robot Productions, and 6th & Idaho will produce the series while Bruce Timm, the mind behind Emmy-winning Batman: The Animated Series, returns as an Executive Producer alongside Hollywood giants J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves.
Warner Bros. did not reveal full details on the show but assures fans that its character depth, state of the art animation, and intense action sequences will make Batman: Caped Crusader an exciting watch. Timm, Abrams, and Reeves had this to say:
“We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City. The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world.”
On Wednesday, Amy Friedman, Head of Kids and Family Programming at Warner Bros., also announced a two-season order for My Adventures with Superman, a family-oriented series that follows trio Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and novice photographer, Jimmy Olsen, as they navigate their early twenties and begin reporting for The Daily Planet. Starring Jack Quaid as Kent and Alice Lee as Lane, the series will be framed as a coming-of-age tale as the friends share adventures, confront evil, and mature into their respective identities. Friedman elaborates:
“Superman has remained one of the most iconic and beloved Super Heroes in the world. This fresh take from the Warner Bros. Animation team delivers a modern, relatable Clark Kent alongside a fearless, whip smart Lois Lane who are navigating the small tasks of both becoming adults and trying to save the world.”
Warner Bros. Animation will produce the series while Sam Register, Jake Wyatt, and Brendan Clogher serve as EPs alongside Co-Producer Josie Campbell. My Adventures with Superman and Batman: Caped Crusader do not have an official release date, but AFA will continue to post updates.
