Adult Swim Adds Six New Series to Slate
Adult Swim announced the release of six new series on Wednesday. The popular network’s new shows will include one half-hour program, a quarter-hour series, and four digital shorts.
Royal Crackers will take the half-hour slot. Produced by Titmouse and scheduled to air in 2022, the show follows Theo and Stebe, two gold-digging sons who mill around their comatose father’s home, waiting for him to die (he never does) so they can inherit his cracker company empire. Royal Crackers was created by Jason Ruiz, who will also serve as an Executive Producer for the show alongside Seth Cohen.
AS fans might already be familiar with Smiling Friends. The pilot for the show aired in 2019 and is now the #1 most watched episode on AdultSwim.com. Created by Ruiz, Zach Hadel, and Michael Cusack, the mind behind YOLO: Crystal Fantasy, Smiling Friends tells the story of Charlie and Pim. Charlie is a cynic; Pim is a cheery, star employee, and together the two work for Smiling Friends, an agency that strives to brighten the day of everyone who calls their hotline. Smiling Friends will be released in quarter-hour episodes and is scheduled to air later this year.
In addition to its longer-form content, AS will also release four digital shorts inspired by previous shows. Based on the superhero league from Rick and Morty: Season 3, The Vindicators follows Supernova, Vance Maxiumus, Alan Rails, Crocubot, and Noob Noob as they continue to fight crime without the grandfather-grandson duo. Dan Harmon, Justin Roiland, Erica Rosbe, and Sarah Carbiener will all serve as EPs.
Created by Donald Faison and produced by Stoopid Buddy Studios, Alabama Jackson follows its titular, smooth-talking time traveler as he continues to land in the wrong place at the wrong time. Faison invented Alabama Jackson during a Robot Chicken Comic Con and will employ stop-motion techniques inspired by the popular show. Other new shorts include Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro’s Aquadonk Side Pieces, a spinoff of Aqua Teen Hunger Force that follows the original series' side characters, as well as an animated fifth season of Emmy-nominated show, Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell.
All of Adult Swim’s shorts will consist of eight to ten episodes and be available globally on digital.
