NYCC Metaverse: Animaniacs, MODOK, Wolfwalkers, Invincible, Hilda S2 and More
The usual calendar of conventions just can't happen this year, and we don't need to tell you why. New York ComicCon (NYCC) is usually one of the very biggest, and the venue of numerous panels, announcements and sneak peeks. In place of the physical event, organisers Reed Pop launched the online MetaVerse, which would bring together events online from both NYCC and the MCM London ComicCon from across the pond
Metaverse offered us our first proper look at Hulu's Animaniacs reboot. The first released clip -presumably the very first scene- shows The Warner Bros (and The Warner Sister) being reintroduced in a scene that riffs on Jurassic Park. Featuring a cameo from Executive Producer Steven Spielberg, it feels very much like Animaniacs of old- the years don't seem to have changed Yakko, Wakko and Dot at all.
Check out the full cast and producers panel, which features EPs Wellesley Wild and Gabe Swarr and voice cast members Rob Paulson, Tress MacNeille, Jess Harnell and Maurice LaMarche.
Also coming to Hulu is MODOK, one of several adult animations based on Marvel properties that were announced a few years ago, that also included Howard The Duck. Most of the series were subsequently scrapped (RIP poor Howard) but the series based on supervillain MODOK ("Mental Organism Designed Only to Kill") is still going ahead. Surprisingly, the comedy series is being made in stop-motion and will feature Patton Oswalt as the giant-headed bad guy in a comedy that will focus on his everyday family life. You can get your first look at the footage in the panel, below!
Adult comic-based animation of a very different kind will feature in Invincible, the adaptation of the comic series by The Walking Dead's creator Robert Kirkman, that is coming to Amazon Prime. We got both a first-look teaser trailer and a (short) panel, to really give us an idea of just what to expect. It looks like it's going to be just the tonic if you're already missing Amazon's The Boys.
Panel:
In the weekend of its European premiere Cartoon Saloon's Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart preview their eagerly anticipated feature WolfWalkers. Joined by another key talent on the film, the directors offer insight into the creative process and answer questions submitted by fans.
From London ComicCon, fan favourite UK distributor Anime Limited took part in an online panel called 30 Questions With Anime Limited. AL's Andy Hanley and Jeremy Graves bring their popular panel to the con, talking about MCMs past, guilty pleasures and their biggest anime purchases and more.
The team behind Kipo And The Age Of Wonderbeasts give fans a preview of the final season of the show. Featuring executive producers Radford Sechrist and Bill Wolkoff, story editors Joanna Lewis and Kristine Songco, and voice actors Karen Fukuhara, Sydney Mikayla and Coy Stewart.
The always reliable cast of the fantastically funny Archer are here for a Trivia Showdown, as they compete against each other in a trivia contest.
