Out This Week: Weathering With You, Scoob, Cowboy Bebop and More

This week's list of new releases is not one of the longer ones, but some of the titles included are sure to draw a lot of interest. Makoto Shinkai's blockbuster hit Weathering With You finally arrives on disc in the US, while the 2020 CG reboot Scoob! hits digital in the UK.

Elsewhere, BBC Worldwide's release of previously lost classic Doctor Who serials continues with Fury Of The Deep.  Most of the original footage was lost, but the audio survived, so Fury became the latest Doctor Who story to be recreated in animated form. Meanwhile, collector's in the United States can pick up a new release of the complete Cowboy Bebop in a goregous new steelbook edition.

Weathering With You (GKIDS/Shout Factory)

Makoto Shinkai's newest film finally arrives on Blu-Ray Combo-pack, DVD (and limited edition steelbook) in the US this week, and it comes in a very tempting package. This disc comes packed with features, including an interview with Shinkai, trailers and TV spots, Exploring Shinkai and Weather Front Featurettes, and (exclusive to the Blu-Ray) a 70-minute Talk Show feature with Shinkai and Japanese TV presenter Yumiko Udo. The main draw though is, of course, the film itself.  If anything Weathering With You is even more beautifully animated than the director's last effort Your Name. The rain-drenched Tokyo of the film is given a magical sheen, making it the perfect setting for this supernatural teen romance. It's full of extremely likeable characters, awe-inspiring sequences and will play your emotions like a fiddle. It comes with a career-best English dub from the reliable NYAV Post team too.  Read our review here. A 4K edition is also due to be released later this year.
