Adopt 'Marona's Fantastic Tale' On Home Video This November
Marona's Fantastic Tale, from award-winning Romanian filmmaker Anca Damian (Crulic -The Path to Beyond) delighted festival-goers around the world. It was an official selection of Annecy International Animation Festival in 2019 and was awarded the Special Jury Prize at last year's Animation Is Film Festival in Hollywood. It also screened, as part of a director's Q&A at the Animation First French animation festival in New York earlier this year, before the pandemic hit.
This summer's planned cinema release from GKIDS Films was an unfortunate victim of the nationwide shutdown, forcing the shift to a limited virtual cinema release in June. But if you couldn't catch the film then, help is at hand. GKIDS and Shout Factory have announced a release on Blu-Ray and digital for this November.
Marona's fantastic tale is directed by Anca Damian, and also features the talents of Eisner-nominated Belgian cartoonist Brecht Evens as character designer and background artists Gine Thorstensen and Sarah Mazetti.
From award-winning director Anca Damian (Crulic -The Path to Beyond) comes the poetic and life-affirming story of Marona, an optimistic stray dog who looks back on the human companions she has loved throughout her life. Born the last in the litter, little Marona’s adventures take her through a series of names and owners – a colorful acrobat, a sensitive construction worker, and a little girl – with dazzling style, pushing animation in bold new directions. But through all of her ups and downs, Marona’s Fantastic Tale is told with the patient, boundless love of a dog, reminding us that happiness is a small thing.
The film will be presented in both the original French-language version with subtitles and a new English language version and a selection of bonus features. Full details are below.
