Rick and Morty Goes Anime in Rick and Morty vs Genocider

The wait between seasons of Rick and Morty has up until this point been lengthy (although Venture Brothers fans probably see them as rank ameteurs). Inbetween seasons Adult Swim hasn't left us hanging, as they have commsioned various talented animators to create their own tributes to Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland's sci-fi comedy.

Last weekend, as the first Adult Swim Con reached its climax, they released a surprise new animated short. The new film is an original anime spin on the R&M universe, from Takashi Sano, director of Tower Of God, and animated at Telecom Animation Film.

Rick and Morty vs Genocider has a distinct animation style (it's not what many people would see as a typical 'anime style') that puts an unusal twist on the show as we know it. As with the earlier Samurai & Shogun, it is even made in Japanese with English subtitles.

The description describes the plot: " Morty goes on an adventure to Tokyo, Japan to try and help stop The Genocider. Nothing weird happens. " Of course, this being Rick and Morty, the last part of that statement isn't exactly true.

Lets hope Adult Swim continues to greenlight more of these kind of shorts and attracting impressive talents. It's always fun to see a fresh take on a show you love!
