'Cyberpunk 2077' Anime Announced From Trigger and Netflix
Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most eagerly anticipated video games for quite some time. Developed by CD Projekt Red, the studio behind the hit series The Witcher, the open-world sci-fi game is due out this November (after numerous delays). The Witcher was adapted from a series of novels, but has probably become best known through its TV series adaptation for Netflix. It has been announced that Cyberpunk 2077 is also headed for Netflix, but this time in animated form.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is not a direct adaptation of the game, but rather a brand new story set in the game's world, featuring new characters. Unlike some other series described by Netflix as 'anime', this one is actually being produced by a Japanese studio- in this case, Studio Trigger (Promare, Little Witch Academia, Kill La Kill).
The studio's top talent will be working on the project, with Hiroyuki Imaishi (FLCL, Gurren Lagann, Promare) in the director's chair and Yoh Yoshinari (the original creator of Little Witch Academia) and Yuto Kaneko designing the characters. The screenplay is being written by Yoshiki Usa and Masahiko Otsuka with the original score coming from Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka. Masahiko Otsuka will serve as assistant director and the creative director will be Hiromi Wakabayashi.

Director Hiroyuki Imaishi added:
Cyberpunk fans have got used to waiting for the oft-delayed game, and they're going to have to wait even longer for this, as it's not going to be released for some time. It's not quite as far off as the 2077 of the title, but it's not going to hit Netflix until 2022.
SYNOPSIS:
We've not seen anything else beyond the teaser image/poster, so we know precious little beyond the basics. There's also a question of how the series will be made, as Trigger primarily works in 2D, but successfully branched out to stylistic CG in Promare. However it's made, this is shaping up to be something exciting. This is definitely a project we'll be keeping a close eye on.
Cyberpunk 2077 is being released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on November 19. Check out the announcement video and poster, below,

We at TRIGGER are thrilled to work with CD PROJEKT RED to create a brand-new story set in the world of the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077. It’s a huge challenge to adapt this universe into an anime, but we are eager to face it head-on,
Director Hiroyuki Imaishi added:
I’ve always loved cyberpunk as a genre, but always found it difficult to create as an original work. This is why I’m very excited to be working with CD PROJEKT RED on this project. It won’t be easy to please both game and anime fans, but I love a challenge, and I’m looking forward to the production. We’ll do our best to meet and exceed expectations

CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner—a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.
