Marona's Fantastic Tale, Looney Tunes, Quirino Awards, Ghibli and More
GKIDS Films were originally planning on bringing Anca Damian's award-winning Marona's Fantastic Tale to US cinemas this summer. However, due to you-know-what closing cinemas across the country, it's just not going to be possible. Rather than wait until things return to normal, or releasing direct to digital, Marona will instead be getting GKIDS first ever 'virtual release'.
The film will be made available via virtual cinema partners including screening partners Laemmle Theaters in Los Angeles and The Museum of the Moving Image in New York from June 12. Screening it this way allows you to support your local independent cinema, as a percentage of each ticket sale goes to the cinema, just as with a traditional cinema model. Additional partners will be revealed and listed at MaronaMovie.com, where you will also be able to find out how to purchase a virtual ticket. The distributor has also launched a new site GKIDS At Home dedicated to their digital offerings and will point visitors to where they can watch films from GKIDS in the comfort of their homes.
GKIDS and Shout Factory will release Steelbook Blu-Rays of two more Hayao Miyazaki films on August 25. The new edition of Kiki's Delivery Service and Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind will contain the films and original bonus features on Blu-Ray and DVD alongside a collectable booklet containing stunning artwork and statements from the filmmakers. The new limited-edition releases join the new steelbook releases of Ponyo and Howl's Moving Castle and are available to pre-order now.
Warner Bros released another clip from the new Looney Tunes Cartoons, which will stream on HBO Max in the US from May 27. The video features Roadrunner and Wil E. Coyote.
The Daytime Emmys have announced the nominees for the 47th edition. The winners will be announced in a socially-distant 2-hour special on CBS on June 26. Animation is awarded in four dedicated categories:
