'Transformers: War For Cybertron Trilogy: Siege' Trailer Rolls Out
Let's be honest, the Transformers franchise has always been a giant toy commercial at heart. So it's only appropriate that the first trailer for the latest animated series should have debuted at New York Toy Fair. The awkwardly monikered Transformers: War For Cybertron Trilogy: Siege is a co-production between Hasbro, Netflix and Rooster Teeth animation
The series will consist of six 22 minute episodes. But as the title indicates 'Siege' is just part of the story, and the War For Cybertron will unfold across a total of three series (which is where the 'Trilogy' part comes in). None of the three chapters has yet got a confirmed release date.
The show takes the franchise back to its roots and is set on the Transformers homeworld of Cybertron. As such, there's not a human to be seen. It takes place during the ongoing war between the Autobots led by Optimus Prime and the dastardly Decepticons led by Megatron. It's basically the first 10 minutes of Bumblebee spun off to a series.
CG animation seems appropriate for an all-mechanical cast, and it looks suitably slick. There's plenty of action in this first trailer, as well as some more dramatic scenes. We've certainly come a long way since Beast Wars, and Transformer fans should be happy.
As has become a habit, Netflix wants us to call this entirely American series 'anime', but we're not having it. What's wrong with 'animated series'?

It is the final hours of the devastating civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons. The war that has torn apart their home planet of Cybertron is at a tipping point. Two leaders, Optimus Prime and Megatron, both want to save their world and unify their people, but only on their own terms. In an attempt to end the conflict, Megatron is forced to consider using the Allspark, the source of all life and power on Cybertron, to “reformat” the Autobots, thus “unifying” Cybertron. Outnumbered, outgunned, and under SIEGE, the battle-weary Autobots orchestrate a desperate series of counterstrikes on a mission that, if everything somehow goes right, will end with an unthinkable choice: kill their planet in order to save it.
