League Of Legends 'Arcane' Animated Series Announced
Riot Games's League Of Legends is one of the most popular video games in the world. The game celebrates its 10th anniversary this month, and Riot have made a number of major announcements to commemorate the occasion. The most surprising of which is the announcement of an animated series called Arcane, set in the League Of Legends world.
The game has previously inspired numerous animated shorts and videos featuring the game's large and colourful cast. Arcane is new territory though as it will be Riot's first foray into longer-form storytelling. The high-quality of these cinematics have (as with Blizzard's hit game Overwatch) led gamers and non-gamers alike to wonder what a movie or series based on these would look like.
And now we know, we can say that Arcane is looking rather exciting, even if you have no interest in the game itself. It's got some gorgeously stylised CG animation, that's not a million miles away from Into The Spider-Verse. The series is being developed in-house at Riot and is expected to release in 2020.
There's not many other details available other than that the series will feature the "origins of two iconic League champions—and the power that will tear them apart." Where the series will be available and in what form, remains to be seen.
