Animation Is Film 2019 Line-Up Revealed
Animation Is Film is an annual festival bringing the best in animated film to the US. Although still relatively new- this is only the third year it has run- the festival organized by GKIDS Films, Annecy International and Variety has become one of the hottest events in the animation calendar. Animation Is Film will return to Mann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood from October 18-20, 2019.
This year's line-up is full of exciting films from around the world- opening with Makoto Shinkai's Weathering With You and closing with Jérémy Clapin's I Lost My Body. Both films will be screening in competition, alongside Masaaki Yuasa's Ride Your Wave, White Snake, The Swallows Of Kabul, Children Of The Sea, Marona's Fantastic Tale, SHe, No. 7 Cherry Lane and Bombay Rose.
The jury is made up of impressive figures from the animation industry and related fields. This year it includes directors Jorge Gutiérrez and Jennifer Yuh Nelson, critics Charles Soloman and Justin Yang, Netflix's Jennifer Cobb and Hair Love's Matthew A Cherry.
Outside the competition, there are special screenings of Cencoroll Connect, Steven Universe The Movie and a program of shorts from Annecy from women directors. There will also be the LA Premiere of the new restoration of Hungarian feature Son Of The White Mare, and a filmmaker Q&A screening of Chinese mega-hit Ne Zha.
The festival will also present exclusive behind the scenes looks at Frozen 2 and Netflix's eagerly anticipated Klaus. There are also two free to attend events based on the making of Magic Light Picture's Zog and Matthew Cherry's short Hair Love.
