Animation Block Party Returns September 20-22
The Animation Block Party, held annually in Brooklyn, New York is one of the United States' premier animation festivals. The 16th edition will run from September 20-22, 2019. The screenings will be at BAM Film and the opening night celebration will take place at DSK.
The opening night screening will be an early screening of the Chinese animated movie White Snake, ahead of its upcoming US release courtesy of GKIDS Films. The opening celebration meanwhile, will feature Picture This "live animated comedy", a screening of animation historian Tommy Stathes Cartoons On Film and a TAMA And Freinds animated exclusive.
On Saturday, there will be a screening of classic Charlie Brown special Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don't Come Back!!) the last traditionally animated Peanuts film from Bill Mendez. There will also be three programs of shorts- one highlighting Local (New York and East Coast-based) animators, another featuring International filmmakers and one putting female animators in the spotlight.
The Sunday will feature a program of animated shorts for kids and a screening of The Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner Movie. The festival will close out with two more programs of shorts- Student Films and Experimental Films, Graphic Design and Music Videos.
Each short program will also be accompanied by a filmmaker Q&A after the screening, and full film synopsis are available on the website. Get your tickets here.
If you'll be in NYC in late September, then this (as always) looks like an event not to be missed. It's no accident that the Block Party has become one of the leading animation events in the US for the better part of two decades.
