Maasaki Yuasa's 'Ride Your Wave' Coming To UK Cinemas
UK based distributor Anime Limited have in recent years had unprecedented success in bringing anime to the big screen across the UK and Ireland. Your Name, Mirai, A Silent Voice, and Maquia are just some of the movies that they have released theatrically so far.
This year so far has been much quieter (they released a film practically every month during 2018) but we can expect some big announcements as we get closer to the Scotland Loves Anime festival in October.
The first of these announcements came at this year's May MCM ComicCon in London. Anime Limited have acquired the new Maasaki Yuasa film Ride Your Wave. It will screen first at this year's SLA, before rolling out across the country at a later date.
The film is due to open in Japan this June and will follow a romance between a surfer-girl named Hinako and fireman Minato. Hinako is heartbroken after Minato dies at sea, but discovers that when she sings, he reappears in the water.
They also announced plans to release Birthday Wonderland, the new film from Keiichi Hara, director of Miss Hokusai and Colourful. It follows a shy girl who is whisked off on an adventure by the alchemist Hippocrates to save the world. It too will screen at SLA before having a wider release (date to be confirmed).
