Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms coming to Blu-Ray
As some of our readers may already know, AFA has been following the development and subsequent release of Mari Okada's directorial debut film with great interest. Since it's original limited release, the film has since received a second opportunity to be shared with curious anime fans across North America, and has won numerous film festival awards across the world.
For those fans who are looking to experience the film once more and share it with others, you're in luck.
SHOUT! FACTORY will be releasing a Blu-Ray + DVD combo pack of Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms to be enjoyed by fans and newcomers alike. For die-hard Maquia enthusiasts, Eleven Arts has announced that not long after the initial DVD release, they will be releasing the Maquia Deluxe Edition Blu-Ray.
This Deluxe Blu-Ray will come with a slew of extras including: additional bonus features, an 80-page booklet, a short scenario written by Mari Okada, a 3-panel display box with art from Character Designer Akihiko Yoshida, and an inner cover with art by Character Designer and Art Director Yuriko Ishii.
Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms is an exploration of motherhood and adolescence, influenced by Mari Okada's fought relationship with her own mother. Making this film not only a first for her but a very personal story that touches on real-life experience.
"Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms” is what I’ve always wanted to write as a writer." Says Mari Okada. "I feel great pleasure as well as pressure to be able to get involved in all of the works beyond the script. The interweaving of people coming together, and their eventual breakup:

Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms Standard DVD combo pack will be released in the US on February 5th, 2019. The Deluxe Edition will be released sometime in March of the same year.
