MFKZ, the hotly anticipated adult animated collaboration from Japan's Studio 4°C and France's Ankama is coming to cinemas in both the UK and US this October. Based on the comics by French artist Guillaume "Run" Renard, and originally screened under the title Mutafukaz, it's a unique genre-bending mash-up of influences including anime, hip-hop culture, Lucha Libre and film noir.
UK distributor Manga Entertainment has released a new poster (see above) and brand a new teaser, giving us our first look at the new English language version of the film.
Michael Chiklis (The Shield) will voice Crocodile. Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) will be Mr K. Jorge Guitterez (the director of The Book Of Life) will play El Tigre. Dascha Polanco will star as Luna, RZA voices the character of Shakespeare and Vince Staples will be Vinz. Last, but by no means least, the legendary Danny Trejo will lend his distinctive voice to the character of Bruce.
The film will open on October 11 in the UK and Ireland, and you can find a screening here. GKIDS Films will also release the film in US cinemas on the same day. Check out the trailer, below.
MFKZ centers on young Angelino and his skull-and-flame pal Vinny, who live in a seedy tenement in an L.A.-inspired dystopian metropolis – a burnt-out, gang-and-cockroach-ridden, neo-urban hell. Following a scooter accident Angelino starts experiencing migraines, strange hallucinations and fits of rage-inspired superpowers, as he slowly awakens to the truth of his origins: he is half human and half Macho, a supernatural alien race that is bent on taking over the planet.
