Manchester Animation Festival 2018 Program Revealed

The UK's biggest celebration of animation Manchester Animation Festival will return for the fourth year this November.  On the evening of September 24, the program for the 2018 festival was revealed via a livestream on Facebook.

The festival will run at HOME from November 13-15, with a Family Day also being held on November 11 and an Academic Conference on November 16. The line-up will include many screenings, of both shorts and features, workshops, filmmaker Q&A sessions, talks and other events.

Features screening are British stop-motion feature Chuck Steel: Night Of The Trampires (complete with a director Q&A and accompanying exhibition), Isle Of Dogs (plus a Making Of event),  Tito And The Birds, Virus Tropical and Funan.

Shorts will be screened as part of two programs, in addition to selections of Student Films, commisioned films, shorts for children and a Skwigly showcase.

MAF 2018 will feature two events honouring the legendary Smallfilms productions created by the late Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin- one selection of their works and a panel attended by Daniel Postgate, Oliver's son.  Animator Barry Purves will also be honoured with a look back at his 40-year career and a retrospective screening.

Masterclasses will be held by Frame Store's Prajakta Nandlaska and arts collective The Line, and workshops dedicated to scriptwriting, character design, character animation and storyboarding will also be available. Animated Women UK will hold a panel "celebrating women across the country who have succeeded in the animation business" and sharing "inspirational journeys and ask pertinent questions around equality and inclusion."

The annual Skwigly Quiz will also return and 18+ attendees can also join in the fun at Mafter Dark "an evening in the pub filled with animation."
