'The Dragon Prince' Revealed, 'Castlevania' 'Cannon Busters' and Other Netflix Animation News
There can be little doubt that Netflix is establishing itself as one of the biggest names in animation. It seems that almost every month new animated series are being revealed. The latest to be announced is The Dragon Prince, a show with quite a pedigree.
The "epic fantasy series" comes from Aaron Ehasz, the head writer and director of Avatar The Last Airbender, and Justin Richmond, a veteran of the Uncharted games series. Giancarlo Volpe ( Avatar, Green Lantern) is executive producer.
The series is being produced by Wonderstorm. The official synopsis describes the show as being about "two human princes who forge an unlikely bond with the elfin assassin sent to kill them, embarking on an epic quest to bring peace to their warring lands." More information is due to be revealed at a panel at San Diego Comic-Con on July 21.
This is just the latest in a slew of animation announcements coming out of Netflix in the last week or so. Also announced is that the video game adaptation Castlevania's eight episode second season will arrive on October 26, 2018.
This news was revealed as part of their panel at Anime Expo (although Castlevania is entirely written and produced in the United States). The panel also revealed that Aggretsusko would be returning for a second season in 2019, and that the second animated Godzilla movie would be available from July 18.
Dragon Pilot- an anime series about cute girls piloting robotic dragons- will debut in September and manga adaption Kengan Ashura will arrive some time in 2019.
Cannon Busters, the eagerly anticipated international co-production from LeSean Thomas, Nada Holdings, Manga Entertainment and Satelite, will be available on March 1, 2019. Also announced was a brand new series based on the classic Japanese superhero series Ultraman, from Production IG and Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost In The Shell TV) and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed, Harlock Space Pirate). Ultraman will arrive at a yet to be disclosed date, some time in 2019.
