Second 'Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse' Trailer Is Spectacular
When Sony announced they were making an animated Spider-Man movie, we weren't sure what to expect. The more we learned about the project- that Phil Lord and Chris Miller were involved, that it would feature Miles Morales, that Peter Ramsey would direct- the more interested we were. And then the first teaser trailer blow us away.
Now, the second trailer for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is here. Has it added to our excitement even further? In a word: yes. This new trailer is quite something.
Last time we only really got the briefest of glimpses at the film's protagonist Miles. This time, we get a good look at his everyday life, with his well-meaning but embarrassing policeman father. His life is changed when he encounters Spider-Man (Peter Parker), who is surprised to discover another with the same powers. The story will somehow feature multiple universes, although quite how that will work remains to be seen. We also get an appearance here from Spider Gwen (another alternate universe character from the Marvel comics).
The film is described as "a game changer", and the animation here is like nothing you've seen before. The CG animation has a distinctive look (in still frames it looks as if it could be hand-drawn) that looks spectacular in motion. Add in on-screen sound effects and we really get the effect of seeing a comic-book brought to life. It also looks like the film will combine character-based humour with beautifully animated action set-pieces, to truly capture the spirit of Spider-Man.
As well as the new trailer, we have a new poster and casting announcements. Alongside the previously announced Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Jake Johnson joins the cast as original web-slinger Peter Parker. Liev Schreiber will play the villain Kingpin, and Hailee Steinfeld appears as Spider-Gwen.
Mahershala Ali will play Miles' Uncle Aaron, while Brian Tyree Henry and Luna Lauren Velez voice his parents. Lily Tomlin will play Aunt May.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, and the screenplay is by Phil Lord. Miles Morales swings into cinemas on December 14, 2018.
