Apple Orders First Original Animation 'Central Park'
With streaming video content booming, it seems that everyone wants a piece of the pie. Apple is the latest major company to be preparing to launch its own original content. As it turns out, animation will be a part of their plan- and their first show sounds like quite an audacious debut.
Apple's first animated series launch will be Central Park, a new project from Bob's Burgers creator Loren Bouchard. It will focus on a family of caretakers living in the eponymous park. Bouchard is writing alongside fellow Bob's Burgers alumni Nora Smith and actor Josh Gad. Gad will also star, alongside fellow Frozen star Kristen Bell, Leslie Odom Jr., Titus Burgess, Stanley Tucci, Katheryn Hahn and Daveed Diggs. The show will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television.
The series is being pitched as a musical comedy. This isn't a massive surprise as music is a major element of Bob's Burgers, and much of the cast (particularly Bell, Gad and Burgess) are already as well known for their musical talents as their acting.
As an indicator of Apple's confidence the show, they have already ordered two full 13 episode seasons.
It's not yet known how (or when) exactly Apple's TV shows will be available. Will it be a subscription service? Will they be available via iTunes? Or could they even be available to everyone with an Apple device? Either way, it shouldn't be too long until we find out.
