Netflix Greenlights Adult Animation 'Tuca & Bertie'
Netflix is continuing to beef up its animated content, with numerous new shows and films on the way for both family and adult audiences. The streaming site has now added another to the growing list with new adult comedy offering Tuca & Bertie.
Tuca and Bertie comes from the producers of BoJack Horseman, and is created by the show's production designer and producer Lisa Hanawalt. BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg will join Hanawalt as executive producer. The animation will be produced by Shadowmachine (BoJack, Robot Chicken).
The series will focus on the two titular characters, who are 30-year-old bird women living in the same apartment. Tuca ( a cocky care-free toucan) will be played by Tiffany Haddish (break out star of the hit comedy Girls Trip) who has also signed on as an executive producer. Bertie (an anxious, day-dreaming songbird) has yet to be cast.
Netflix has ordered a full 10-episode initial season, but no release date has been announced.
The new series will join an impressive slate of adult animation shows available to subscribers, alongside BoJack, F Is For Family, Big Mouth and upcoming Matt Groening series Disenchantment.
