Critics Choice Awards Named Animated Film and TV Nominees
The Awards Season keeps on rolling on. We've already had nominations for The Annie Awards, the Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society and more. Still ahead are the Golden Globes, BAFTA and most high profile of all, the Oscars. Next up is the Critics Choice Awards, who are the latest organisation to release their nominees.
The Best Animated Feature category comprises Coco, The Breadwinner, The LEGO Batman Movie, Loving Vincent and Despicable Me 3. This is notably almost identical to the LAOFC nominations, only with Captain Underpants swapped out for Despicable Me 3. We're starting to see a pattern here with Coco and The Breadwinner being the current favourites in most cases. There seems to be more variation elsewhere, with the choice of other more mainstream features differing from one list to another. We're seeing an awful lot of love for Loving Vincent out there too, meaning at this point it has to be considered a serious contender.
The Critics Choice Awards do not only celebrate cinema, however- but also TV. In the Best Animated Series the nominations are Archer, The Simpsons, BoJack Horsman, Rick and Morty, Bob's Burgers and Danger & Eggs. Most choices there are fairly conventional- except for the last one, which you could have been forgiven for not even having heard of. Danger & Eggs is an animated family series created by Shadi Petosky and Mike Owens, available only on Amazon Prime.
The 23rd Annual Critics Choice Awards will take place on January 11, 2018 and will be broadcast live in the US on The CW Network. You can see all the nominations here.
