Hayao Miyazaki's 'Lupin III: The Castle Of Cagliostro' In US Cinemas September 14, 19
Fathom Events and GKIDS Films have been screening the classic films of Studio Ghibli's Hayao Miyazaki in cinemas across the US this year in the ongoing Ghiblifest season. These are not the only chances to catch a Miyazaki film on the big screen this year, however, as Fathom is also teaming up with Eleven Arts to bring Miyazaki's very first film to cinemas as part of a 2-night event.
Lupin III: The Castle Of Cagliostro was Miyazaki's debut movie, based on the popular Lupin III TV series (which Miyazaki also worked on). This will be the very first time the film has film has screened theatrically in the US.
It follows the character of Arsene Lupin III, world renowned gentleman thief as he visits the tiny country of Cagliostro in search of his latest score. However, a chance encounter with a runaway princess sees him caught up in a rescue mission to save her from a dastardly count. No familiarity with the Lupin character is needed, and the film will give you a look at the first appearance of several of Miyazaki's trademark themes and elements. It's much more of a traditional fairytale than his later films, but it still features flying sequences, feisty ladies- and one of the best car chases ever animated.
The film will screen dubbed on September 14 and subtitled on September 19. Both screenings will be accompanied by a specially recorded introduction from John Lasseter, who apparently used the film to woo his wife.

Meanwhile, GKIDS Ghiblifest will continue with Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind on September 24, 25 and 27.
