Anime Limited and STUDIO4°C Kickstarting 'Mind Game' Blu-ray Release
UK anime distributor Anime Limited has run a couple of successful Kickstarter campaigns- for a UK release for Patema Inverted and for an international release for Mai Mai Miracle. Now they are gearing up for another crack at crowdfunding- this time in collaboration with the renowned anime studio STUDIO4°C.
The new campaign is to bring the feature Mind Game from director Masaaki Yuasa to Blu-ray for the first time. The film was previously available on Netflix, but has not previously had a home release in HD anywhere.
Yuasa is a film-maker whose international profile has been rising lately. And it is only set to continue, as he has two films due out in Japan this year and the upcoming Devilman Crybaby Netflix series next year. Whether you're familiar with his work or not, this release will give you a chance to see where he began.
Originally released in 2004, Mind Game follows an aspiring manga artist Nishi who has been in love with his friend Myon since childhood. His plans to propose to her are scuppered by the fact she's already engaged to someone else.. and even worse, he's a nice guy. But things soon take a turn involving the yakuza, a mysterious old man, and a whole new world of trouble.
The campaign is aiming to produce a collector's edition Blu-ray of the film. As with Mai Mai Miracle, this will be an international campaign and will be open to everyone. The goal is to raise £4,500 towards the release, with the Studio footing the rest of the bill.
The campaign launched on Thursday March 30 at 12pm BST. Head over to the campaign page now.
