Ottawa International Animation Festival Celebrates Turning 40
As a fitting way to celebrate the occasion this year, the festival will not only showcase the latest animation, but also highlight the best animation from around the world it has screened over the years. There will be a series of retrospective screenings that will feature every single Grand Prize winner to date, and many of the past Prize winners will also be in attendance. According to the organizers, it "will be a mixture of past, present and future... Despite being one of the oldest animation events in the world, the Festival promises to feel as young and vibrant as ever."
Canadian artist Michael Zavacky was commissioned to create this year's poster, which is a callback to the very first festival poster from 1976. National Film Board Of Canada veteran and documentary film-maker Donald McWilliams has signed on as the position of 'Honorary President' of this year's festival. McWilliams has made documentaries that use both animation and live-action, and was a friend and colleague of the NFB legend Norman McLaren.
The festival will take place from September 21st-25th 2016 in Ottawa, Canada, and entries for submissions from animators are open until May 27th. More details of this year's program will be revealed at a later date.
